Somerville
is a small village of about 500 residents, located just east of the city of Augusta in Lincoln County. Somerville is in the northern part of the county near Long Pond and James Pond, Dodge Hill and Crummet Mountain. It's considered a quiet, adult community of friendly people and lovely neighborhoods, an easy day trip to many of southern Maine's major attractions. Some of the more popular of those attractions include Reed State Park, Popham Beach, Lincolnville Beach, Camden Hills State Park, Owls Head Museum and the Farnsworth Museum. Damariscotta Lake State Park is just seven miles from Somerville and offers swimming, boating, kayaking, ferry excursions to nearby islands, picnicking and contains an old-fashioned playground for children. The Penobscot Marine Museum is located in nearby Searsport and the Fort Knox Historic Site is in Bucksport. Other activities in Somerville include sailing, deep sea fishing, hiking, birding and wildlife viewing, and dining on delicious seafood straight off the boat. The capital city of Augusta is just minutes from Somerville and offers many cultural and historic sites, along with recreational opportunities on the Kennebec River and Peacock Beach State Park.

The southern coast of Maine near the Penobscot Bay has very comfortable summers and falls, cold winters with frequent thaws and late, changeable springs. Summers are mild to cool by most people's standards, with very few summer nights too warm and humid for sleeping. Autumn has the greatest number of sunny days along the coast and is perfect for fall sightseeing. Winters are cold, but not as severe as the northeastern part of the state along the Canadian border. The White Mountains, to the northwest, keep considerable snow from reaching the Portland area and also help moderate the temperature. Normal precipitation is remarkably uniform throughout the year. Winds are generally light with the strongest being in the months of March and November. Temperatures well below freezing are reported each year, and cold waves sometimes come along with strong winds. Blizzards are possible but infrequent in Maine.
