Liberty
is a tiny town located in Waldo County between the towns of Augusta and Belfast in south central Maine (near the coast.) The village of Liberty has easy access to all of Waldo County's major attractions along the coast and scenic Penobscot Bay. You will see "genuine" Maine, set against New England port towns and quaint rural villages with sweeping mountain vistas and unspoiled coastal views. A favorite motto of Waldo County is "the Maine of yesteryear is still found here." Plus, water is everywhere, and outdoor activities of all kinds can be found near Liberty such as fishing and boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing, hiking, biking, sightseeing, birdwatching, golf and much more. Attractions in the area include Sears Island, which is one of the largest uninhabited islands on the East Coast. It sits at the top of Penobscot Bay and is a paradise for birders where some 168 different species of birds have been recorded. Fishing and hiking are available on the island, as well, and hunting for sea glass and seashells is a favorite pastime for many who visit Sears Island. A couple of other places of interest not to be missed when visiting Liberty are the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport and the Fort Knox State Historic Site in Bucksport. The latter includes guided tours, a gift shop, and an impressive garden.

The Central Coast of Maine, near Penobscot Bay, has a mild climate with an average annual snowfall of 59 inches and average annual rainfall of 48 inches. Generally summers are mild with temperatures rarely going above 80 degrees. Expect cool weather on most summer nights, especially along the coast where sea breezes can feel quite cool. The humidity level is usually of no consequence due to the mild temperatures. Winters in Maine are cold but not frigid. Snow melts frequently along the coast - winter enthusiasts will find more snow on the ground for longer periods of time inland. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring, and rain is frequent in every month. Fog is common during Jun, Jul and Aug.
