Palermo
is a small town situated on the southern mid-coast of Maine in Waldo County, near the Penobscot Bay. This unspoiled landscape varies from beautiful mountain vistas to charming coastal scenes, and Waldo County's motto is "The Maine of Yesteryear is Still Found Here." Attractions include the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, the Fort Knox Historic Site in Bucksport, and Sears Island, one of the largest uninhabited islands on the East Coast with a seabird colony of 168 different species. Penobscot Bay is a short drive south of Palermo and is listed as one of the top ten sailing bays in the world. Closer to town is lovely Sheepscot Lake, reportedly one of the cleanest lakes in the east central part of Maine. Palermo is also in the heart of the China Lakes Region, which consists of three bodies of water; China Lake, Three-Mile Pond and Branch Pond. This exceptionally tranquil area of Maine set amid the crystal clear lakes and ponds, rolling hills and picturesque farms offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing, hiking, biking, picnicking, sightseeing and wildlife viewing. China Lake, especially, is known for its' excellent fishing for landlocked salmon, small mouth bass and white perch. A number of children's summer camps are located near Palermo, and the capital city of Augusta is just a short drive west of the town.

The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
