Ocean-Park is approximately 18 miles south of Portland and is considered part of the Old Orchard Beach area. Founded in 1881 as a summer assembly, Ocean Park is a quiet community that is a world apart from the beach scene at Old Orchard Beach. The town is host to a number of cultural happenings throughout the year that usually take place in the historic Temple, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The beaches on the "grand strand," which is this seven-mile stretch of shoreline from Saco to Scarborough is considered by many to include some of the finest beaches in the country. Besides swimming and other beach activities, all of Ocean Park is a Maine Game Preserve and has miles of beautiful walking trails where you can view a wide variety of wildlife and birds. And, across from Ocean Park is the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Ocean Park is a friendly place where you can walk the village streets and residents will stop to speak to you. But, if you start to crave more action, Old Orchard Beach with its boardwalk, rides, games, fireworks and amusement park atmosphere is just minutes away.

The southwestern coast of Maine, near "The Kennebunks" and the New Hampshire border, has a four season climate that is highly changeable, that is, it can go from sunny to stormy rather quickly. Generally, summers are a few degrees warmer than further up the coast, near Acadia National Park, however summer temperatures still seldom go above 80 degrees F. Thunderstorms are possible and fog is common along the coast in June, July and August. . The average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. In September, clear, sunny days and cool nights bring on the spectacular colors of fall. Temperatures continue to cool down through October and November, with wintry weather arriving around Thanksgiving time. Winters are cold in Maine, but not unbearable, and the generally snow melts quickly in areas right along the coast.
