Biddeford Pool
is a beautiful coastal town in southern Maine, along the banks of the Saco River near the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of the Biddeford-Saco area, which includes several small, distinct villages, including Biddeford Pool. Settled in the 1600s, the Biddeford Pool area has a long, rich history and today remains a thriving city at the center of southern Maine’s coastal attractions. The town of Biddeford is ideally situated along the I-95 corridor, just 15 miles south of Portland. Here, you will find miles of unspoiled beaches, rolling hills, pastures and tranquil horse farms. Old Orchard Beach has seven miles of wide, sandy beach for swimming and other beach activities and is also home to Palace Playland, an amusement park with 22 rides, a waterslide and a 24,000 square foot video arcade. Biddeford Pool and the coastal Maine area has unique shopping from outlet stores to specialty shops and art galleries. The southwestern coast of Maine, near %u201CThe Kennebunks%u201D and the New Hampshire border, has a four season climate that is highly changeable, that is, it can go from sunny to stormy rather quickly. Generally, summers are a few degrees warmer than further up the coast, near Acadia National Park, however summer temperatures still seldom go above 80 degrees F. Thunderstorms are possible and fog is common along the coast in June, July and August. . The average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. In September, clear, sunny days and cool nights bring on the spectacular colors of fall. Temperatures continue to cool down through October and November, with wintry weather arriving around Thanksgiving time. Winters are cold in Maine, but not unbearable, and the generally snow melts quickly in areas right along the coast.
