Harmony
is a small town located in Central Maine, about 97 miles north of Portland and 196 miles northeast of Boston. As of the 2000 Census, the town of Harmony had a population of 954 residents. It is within an hour's drive of Bangor and Moosehead Lake. Whatever Harmony might be lacking in size, it makes up for in charm. There are two General Stores in town, including one that also serves as a gas station and a restaurant that serves up a great breakfast. All kinds of outdoor recreational activities are available in the wilderness areas surrounding the town, including some of the best canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting in the state. Other things to do include hiking, fishing and boating, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, birdwatching and wildlife viewing. The town also hosts the annual Harmony Fair, usually held Labor Day weekend. This free fair offers rides, crafts, lots of food, motor sports and animals. Harmony lies within Somerset County, which is considered the gateway to the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests of Western Maine, which offer four seasons of outdoor fun. This is a great place to visit for anyone looking for a quiet, tranquil vacation getaway - far from the crowds and noise of the cities.

Central Maine , in the area known as the Maine Highlands, enjoys four distinct seasons.
The Penobscot Valley region has plenty of clear, sunny days in summer, with nights cool enough to provide a welcome relief from the warm days. Brisk, sunny days and cool nights in September prepare for what is the favorite season for many in Maine. The spectacular colors of fall draw lots of visitors to the area. Temperatures continue to cool down through October and November, with wintry weather returning around Thanksgiving. Cold weather settles in around Thanksgiving. January and February are generally the coldest months of winter. Below zero temperatures are possible, but infrequent and usually do not last for a very long period of time. Temperatures begin to increase in March, with a corresponding increase in humidity. The Bangor area receives approximately 85 inches of snow a year, most of it occurring in eight to ten measurable storms per year.
