Embden
is a spring-fed lake, or "pond" located in the central mountains of Maine, just minutes from the world famous Sugarloaf Ski area, which is the only above tree-line ski resort on the East Coast. This is a scenic, four-season nature area with lots of activities for everyone. Winter is a busy time around Embden, but in summer when things quiet down you'll still find plenty of things to do such as swimming, boating, fishing for salmon and trout, hiking, mountain biking, golf and tennis. Winter brings an abundance of natural snow and crowds for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and ice fishing and sledding. The clear waters of Embden Lake set against the tranquil mountains offers spectacular scenery in spring, summer, fall and winter. The warm summer months also brings folks out to the local county fairs and summer theater. Fall is a popular time for hunting or sightseeing along the country back roads and hills, which are ablaze with color. The small towns and villages around the lake are great for antiquing and exploring gift shops that feature works by local artisans. Shopping and dining can be found in many of the small towns and villages that surround Embden Lake, or at the base of the village at Sugarloaf.

Embden Weather & Climate

The central mountains region of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year, and is usually spread pretty evenly throughout the season.
