Hartland
is a small, quiet village of approximately 1,000 residents located on the shores of Great Moose Lake and Sebasticook River in central Maine. This is largely a forested, rural area, although several major crossroads intersect within the village of Hartland. Definitely off the beaten path, Hartland is approximately 30 miles from the China Lakes region and just one hour from the city of Portland. It’s not the kind of place to come if you’re looking for a lot of tourist action – rather it provides a tranquil vacation getaway and rural lifestyle, nestled on a beautiful lake, with lots of outdoor recreational possibilities and no crowds. As part of Somerset County, Hartland is the gateway to the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests of west central Maine and offers four seasons of outdoor fun. In the warmer months of the year, Great Moose Lake provides swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing and wind surfing. In the wintertime, Hartland is near miles of groomed snowmobile and cross-country skiing trails, and has easy access to area ski resorts, including the famous Sugarloaf Ski Area. Just a few miles from Hartland is Sebasticook Lake and the town of Newport, with its’ vibrant downtown area filled with unique shops and restaurants.

The central mountains region of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year, and is usually spread pretty evenly throughout the season.
