Damariscotta
is located along the banks of the Damariscotta River near Damariscotta Lake and the Atlantic seacoast in southeast Maine. It sits directly across from the town of Newcastle, and together, they are called the "Twin Villages" of Lincoln County. With its close proximity to water, you'll find all sorts of outdoor activities in Damariscotta, including swimming, sailing and boating, fishing, and canoeing. Land lovers have hiking, biking and nature walks to choose from in the shady forests and tree-lined lakes and steams that makes up southeastern Maine. The town of Damariscotta is a charming village with wonderful seafood restaurants, gift shops and antique shops to explore. If it happens to rain when you visit, spend some time at the Colonial Pemaquid Historical Site and Fort Permaquid, which houses a museum, seafood restaurant and picnic pier. Or tour the Chapman-Hall House, the oldest structure in Damariscotta, built in 1754 by Nathaniel Chapman. For children, there is the Lonna Bunting Children's Playground and the Central Lincoln County Family Recreational Center in Damariscotta which has all types of indoor activities throughout the year. Artists and photographers love this area of Maine that offers endless vistas of spectacular beauty to capture on canvas and film. All of this plus Damariscotta is just a two hour drive to Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor area.

Mid-coast Maine, east of Brunswick, has an oceanic climate with four seasons. This area has an elevation of approximately 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and while accumulating snow remains a possibility into March and early April, warmer days generally means relatively fast melts. . Ice storms can also occur in winter and early spring. Summers along the coast are cool, with temperatures in the 60 to 80 degrees range. Nights are usually chilly along the coast, year round. Rain can occur in any month of the year, with thunderstorms most common during the spring and summer months. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast, a very comfortable and colorful time of the year to visit Maine.
