Damariscotta-Lake
is a narrow, 14-mile long lake located on the mid-coast of Maine, about 10 minutes from the town of Damariscotta and approximately 30 minutes from Boothbay Harbor. The lake is the center of the tourist/resort activity in Lincoln County, Maine. On the northern tip of Damariscotta Lake, just below the town of Jefferson, is Damariscotta Lake State Park. The park is open Memorial Day through Labor Day and is known for its' great fishing, boating, swimming and kayaking. Picnic tables and grills are also available in the park, as well as an old-fashioned playground for children. Other outdoor recreational opportunities around lake include hiking, biking and wildlife viewing. Nearby, the town of Damariscotta is a charming village with wonderful seafood restaurants, gift shops and antique shops to explore. Other attractions in the area include the Colonial Pemaquid Historical Site and Fort Pemaquid, and Chapman-Hall House, which is the oldest structure in Damariscotta, built in 1754 by Nathaniel Chapman. Damariscotta Lake is just a few miles from the historic town of Wiscasset, known for its' antique shops and art galleries and its' elegant, old sea captain's homes. Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor area is approximately an hour away from Damariscotta Lake.

Mid-coast Maine, east of Brunswick, has an oceanic climate with four seasons. This area has an elevation of approximately 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and while accumulating snow remains a possibility into March and early April, warmer days generally means relatively fast melts. . Ice storms can also occur in winter and early spring. Summers along the coast are cool, with temperatures in the 60 to 80 degrees range. Nights are usually chilly along the coast, year round. Rain can occur in any month of the year, with thunderstorms most common during the spring and summer months. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast, a very comfortable and colorful time of the year to visit Maine.
