Farmington
is located between the towns of Rumford and Skowhegan along US Highway 2 in the south-central part of the state. This lovely city, with its old-fashioned downtown area, is home to the University of Maine Farmington, and sits on the banks of the Sandy River near Clearwater Pond and the Kennebec River. The east-west vein of Route 2 runs through some of Maine's most beautiful countryside, surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. The Farmington area is a favorite of tourists, and is considered the gateway to some of the greatest skiing and snowmobiling in New England at Sugarloaf and Saddleback. Other outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and even gold-panning in the nearby lakes and rivers. There is hiking at Tumbledown Mountain, Piazza Rock, Daggett Rock and Cascade Falls, and bike trails at Webb Lake, Cape Cod Hill and the Holley Road Loop. The Old Railroad Bed at Farmington has been turned into a recreational trail for bikers, hikers, joggers, horseback riding and ATV enthusiasts. Farmington is spectacular in autumn where there are several scenic drives to enjoy the fall foliage. And, the town of Farmington is the county seat of Franklin County, which hosts several festivals and special events throughout the year, such as the Farmington Fair, Old Home Days, Festival of Trees and Winter Festival.

Farmington Weather & Climate

The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
