Jonesboro
is a tiny New England village that lies along the Chandler River in eastern Maine. This town of approximately 600 is situated in Washington County, which has the distinction of being the easternmost county in the United States. Washington County is 85 percent woodland and 8 percent lakes, four- percent bogs and swamps and three percent cropland. Many consider this county along the Atlantic sea coast to be one of incomparable beauty, where the air is crisp and clean, and you can walk along the shore for miles and never see another soul. But, you will find plenty to do such as fishing and hunting, hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming and boating. Rock hounds and amateur botanists love the unspoiled countryside surrounding Jonesboro, and artists and photographers love the untamed natural beauty and small fishing villages, the springtime wildflowers and dazzling fall colors. The greatest rise and fall of tides on the shores of the continental U.S. occur along the Washington County coast, and no visit to Jonesboro would be complete without exploring the beautiful beaches and rocky cliffs that divide land and sea. The scene is ever changing as each tide rearranges the pattern of the rocks, sand and the residue from the sea. Jonesboro is definitely the kind of place where you can be as active as you wish, or be secluded and relaxed, doing nothing but enjoying the view.

Jonesboro Weather & Climate

The easternmost area of the United States is Washington County, Maine, which is also one of the most remote areas of Maine. There are four seasons, although summers are very mild and air conditioning is not necessary in this part of the state. The greatest rise and fall of tides on the shores of the continental U.S. occur along the Washington County coastline, and it is the first place in the country to see the sunrise each day. The Maine coastal climate receives lots of precipitation - in every form. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring, and rain is frequent in every month of the year. The average annual rainfall is 48 inches and the average annual snowfall is 61 inches. Snow does not stay on the ground as long along the coast as it does further inland and in northern Maine. There are plenty of clear, sunny days in summer and fall, followed by crisp, cold nights. Fog is common during June, July and August.
