Charlotte
is a tiny village with a population of approximately 300, located in quiet, secluded Washington County in northeastern Maine. Many of the town's residents are direct descendants of those who originally settled the town in 1809. The unspoiled natural beauty, far from the busy tourist crowds, is what draws visitors to Washington County. Eighty-five percent of it is woodlands, with abundant outdoor recreational opportunities, such as hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing, sea kayaking, birdwatching and wildlife viewing. The Charlotte area is also a great place for rockhounds, photographers and artists who love the scenic coastline, rocky cliffs and pebble stone beaches. Nearby attractions include Cobbscook Bay State Park, Pocomoonshine Lake, the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and the spectacular St. Croix River. The town of Lubec is approximately sixteen miles from Charlotte, and is home to Quoddy Head State Park and the famous candy-striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, built in 1808. The State Park contains rocky cliffs that rise majestically above the sea, and miles of hiking paths, which offer fantastic views of Canada's Grand Manan Island. Washington County is not the place to come if you're looking for an exciting nightlife, but is the place for peace and quiet in a beautiful, natural setting.

Charlotte Weather & Climate
The eastern seacoast of Maine near the Canadian border has an extreme oceanic climate with cool temperatures, wind and fog. Fog is especially likely to form when warm, moist air meets the cold air here. The fog and wind help spread the boggy growth over the thin soil and rocky outcroppings of the area. Washington County is the first spot in the United States to see the sunrise every morning, and does not have the severe snowfalls or frigid cold of the other northern Maine regions. The coast does receive a lot of precipitation, however, in the form of rain, ice and snow. Summers along Maine's eastern seaboard are very mild, with chilly nights and daytime highs rarely going above 80 degrees F. A good place to escape to when the summer heat elsewhere becomes unbearable.
