Brooklin
is located in Hancock County in Downeast Maine, near the town of Blue Hill. Like many of the other small villages in the area, Brooklin began as a fishing village, and today is known as the wooden boat-building capital of Maine. Brooklin is a very historic place, and several of the original buildings of the town are still in use today. Sitting high on a bluff, this quaint town has beautiful views overlooking the Eggemoggin Reach, and has sailing, fishing, kayaking, hiking and biking opportunities. It is home to the WoodenBoat School where you can watch students learning to make and restore traditional wooden boats, and visit the boathouse where wooden pleasure crafts of every kind can be viewed. Brooklin is also home to the Maine Coast Experience, where you can arrange for a whale-watching expedition or a sea-kayaking tour. Other things to do in the Brooklin area include antiquing and exploring other nearby fishing villages, including Blue Hill, with all its art galleries, shops and restaurants. The Acadia National Forest/Bar Harbor area is just a 45-minute drive from Brooklin.

"Downeast Maine," along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a variable climate that can change quickly at any time. This area, which includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island, has four distinct seasons where summer temperatures can range from 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Fog is quite common during the summer months, as well, but there is also plenty of sunshine. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter rain in any month, and ice storms are regular in the winter and early spring. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. Snow tends to melt quickly along the coast - more continuous snow can be found inland.
