Blue-Hill is located in "Downeast" Maine, along the banks of the Penobscot River and near the Atlantic Ocean coastline. The lovely streets of this historic village are lined with old elm trees, colonial homes, shops, art galleries and inns. The town has become the cultural center for the Penobscot Peninsula area, and is home to the Liros Gallery where you'll find paintings by Maine artists, as well as art from around the world. Blue Hill is, in fact, a very popular place that is beloved by artists, potters and musicians and their followers. It also has several crafts and antique shops, including one that specializes in Native American art and antiques. Blue Hill Peninsula is also famous for their inns, both stately and elegant, and quaint and cozy. Nestled at the 943-foot Blue Hill Mountain, Blue Hill Bay is usually filled with sea kayakers and sailors. There are also opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, and canoeing, biking, hiking, golf, and exploring the other quaint villages of the Peninsula. The Blue Hill Fair, which is held every Labor Day weekend, is a traditional country fair with exhibits, lots of food and entertainment. And, for day trips, Blue Hill is an easy 45-minutes drive to the Acadia National Forest/Bar Harbor area.
