Surry
is a small town in the Penobscot Bay region of Down East Maine along the Atlantic seacoast. Near such well-known attractions as Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and Deer Isle, many content that the Maine Coast really begins here at Penobscot Bay. You will find unparalleled beauty with wide, blue vistas, granite boulders, cobblestones and small sandy beaches surrounded by quaint fishing villages. There is an abundance of things to do in the Surry area, including exploring lighthouses and historic sea captains' homes, whale watching, deep-sea fishing, swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, hiking and golf. A relaxing sail on a windjammer is a good way to explore the Bay. The most promising shopping areas near Surry are in Camden, Blue Hill and Stonington. Antiques shops are clustered in Searsport and on the outskirts of villages and farmhouses all along the coastline. Surry is the kind of place where you can be as busy as you want to be, or where you can do nothing except relax and listen to the soft cry of the loons in the distance, and go star gazing at night.

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as "Downeast Maine," includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
