Bath
is an old seafaring town that is nestled along the banks of the Kennebec River on U.S. Highway 1 near the Atlantic coast. It's ideally situated at the head of two peninsulas, over which historic Fort Popham stands guard. Bath is an inviting place to visit anytime of the year with its' bustling waterfront and shipyard, tree-lined streets graced by old ship captains' mansions and its' busy downtown area. Front Street in Bath is graced by 19th century brick buildings and narrow streets that take you back to the slower, charming days of yesteryear. Attractions in town include Bath's Maritime Museum, the Chocolate Church Performing Arts Center, Bath MeetingHouse and Skate Park, and guided, or self-guided, tours of the historic downtown. Popham Beach and Reid State Park are located nearby and offer miles of sandy beach and rocky cliffs for exploration, and scenic boat trips and pirate cruises for the children are available from the waterfront. Also, excursions called "lighthouse and wildlife cruises" depart from the Maritime Museum and take visitors on a fascinating trip along Maine's scenic mid-coast region. Other outdoor sports available in Bath include golf, charter boat fishing, canoeing and kayaking on Winnegance Creek. A visit during the holidays is a treat with Bath's Old Fashioned Christmas, which is held the end of November through December 25, and features festive window displays and competitions, a parade and other special events.

The Kennebec and Damariscotta River region, located along mid-coast Maine, has a moderate climate that is greatly influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. This area has an elevation of 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and summer from 50 to 85 degrees F. Nights are usually chilly, even in the middle of summer. Average rainfall totals 40 inches, with snowfall totaling 75 inches. Ice storms can occur in winter and early spring, but ice and snow tends to melt quickly along the coast. Rain can occur in any month of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast.
