Five-Islands
is located at the very tip of the island of Georgetown and is considered by many to be one of the most scenic spots in Maine, often called "the prettiest harbor in Maine." Georgetown Island and the harbor community of Five Islands is found on the mid-coast, near the historic town of Bath, and covers 18.5 square miles and has over 82 miles of shoreline. If you're looking for the quintessential Maine fishing village - look no further - Five Islands is a great spot to sit on the wharf right next to the water, enjoying fresh seafood while you look out over the fishing boats and the five islands that gave the village its name. For more activity, visit Reid State Park Beach, which reportedly has one of the finest sand beaches in the state. Here, the Seguin Island Lighthouse stands at the mouth of the Kennebec River, and all types of activities are available such as hiking, canoeing and kayaking, boating, fishing, sailing, picnicking, birdwatching and beachcombing. Dining in Five Islands is an adventure in itself, since the town is reputed to have the best lobster in Maine. Other nearby attractions include the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and antiquing and shopping in the other villages found along this section of Maine's scenic mid-coastline.

The Kennebec and Damariscotta River region, located along mid-coast Maine, has a moderate climate that is greatly influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. This area has an elevation of 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and summer from 50 to 85 degrees F. Nights are usually chilly, even in the middle of summer. Average rainfall totals 40 inches, with snowfall totaling 75 inches. Ice storms can occur in winter and early spring, but ice and snow tends to melt quickly along the coast. Rain can occur in any month of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast.
