Wayne
is a small town of approximately 1,000, located fifteen miles west of Augusta, Maine's state capital. Visitors to Wayne find a quintessential New England town with two churches, a general store, a corner store/gas station and gift shops. This region of Maine is lake country, and Rand McNally has called it "one of the best vacation areas in the United States." In summer, Wayne's population doubles as people come from all over to swim, boat, sail and fish in the area's seven lakes and ponds. Androscoggin Lake is the largest in Wayne with a public marina. It is also connected to the Dead River which offers kayaking and canoeing. Other activities in or near Wayne include hiking, biking, white-water rafting, skiing and other snow sports in the wintertime. Wayne has a peaceful, relaxed way of life and the natural beauty of the area is outstanding. You will find restaurants in or near Wayne that feature fresh Maine lobster and seafood, locally grown vegetables and fresh blueberries (in season.) Nearby is a world-class Shakespearean theater, and it's just a short drive to the beaches and quaint fishing villages of the southwest coast of Maine.

The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
