Waterford is a small community of approximately 1,400 located in Oxford County in the Oxford Hills Region of Northwestern Maine. This picturesque town contains a number of small lakes such as Bear Pond and Keoka Lake (also known as Thomas Pond,) and has many white clapboard houses and inns that are listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The pristine Oxford Hills, lakes, ponds and rivers provide unparalleled outdoor activities and attractions. Some of the finest alpine skiing is located nearby and Waterford is surrounded by hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails and hiking and biking paths. Superb fishing and hunting abounds in the region, as well. Oxford County is also known as "The Gemstone Capital of Maine," and is home to many active gemstone quarries. Other attractions near Waterford include the Oxford Plains Speedway, McLaughlin Garden and Horticultural Center, the Celebration Bar Theater and Deertrees Theater. Oxford County also has two golf courses. Small town festivals and special events provide lots of family fun, such as the annual Oxford County Fair in the fall, Snowfest on Norway Lake in the winter, the Largest Manufactured Housing Show in New England in the spring and the Norway Sidewalk Art Show and Summer Festival.

Waterford Weather & Climate

Western Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoy four distinct seasons that typifies the best of a New England climate. There's plenty of clear, sunny weather with cool nights in the summertime, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Extreme humidity in summertime is usually not a problem because temperatures are so mild. Fall is spectacular - crisp, mild days and cold nights, perfect for sightseeing. Winter begins in Maine around Thanksgiving, with January and February being the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85 inches and winter temperatures vary from the mid-30s to below zero. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. In the last fifteen years, the largest single snowstorm amount was 16 inches. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms until mid-April.
