Sorrento
is a tiny village located near the tip of a peninsula on Frenchman Bay in Downeast Maine, just minutes to Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island, and approximately an hour to the Bangor Airport. Sorrento is very small, and has no commercial buildings of any kind - so it's definitely the place to come if you're looking for peace and quiet. What it does offer is scenic beauty, nearby ocean beaches, roadside farm stands known for their blueberries, an award winning winery, antique stores and flea markets, art studios and lots of outdoor recreation. You can look across the Bay to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Close enough for all the opportunities, but far enough away not to be bothered by the crowds. Sorrento actually lies between the busy tourist area of Bar Harbor and the more relaxed Schoodic Peninsula area. Activities to enjoy include hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boat excursions and whale watching. Winter brings ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Another advantage in Sorrento is that lobsters, mussels and other delicious seafood are available at considerably lower prices than in the other larger, better-known towns of Mount Desert Island.

Sorrento Weather & Climate

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as "Downeast Maine," includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
