Prospect-Harbor
is a small fishing village located on the southern end of the Gouldsboro Peninsula in Downeast Maine. This working harbor is about an hour from Acadia National Park and the tourist area of Bar Harbor. Prospect Harbor offers the best of both worlds; quintessential Maine, conveniently located near shops and restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, lighthouses and state and national parks, yet small and remote enough to be as quiet and relaxing as you wish. Prospect Harbor has its' own lighthouse, which sits on a Navy Base, built in 1891. It is not open to the public, except on special occasions, but can be seen across the harbor from Route 186 in Prospect Harbor. Visitors can also drive to the entrance of the Navy facility at the end of the Lighthouse Point Road off Route 195 for a good view of the lighthouse. Activities in the area include boating, fishing, sea kayaking, whale watching excursions, hiking, biking, golf and wildlife viewing. Prospect Harbor is just minutes to the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, a 2,166 acre wildlife preserve with forest, fields and shoreline. The Refuge contains two walking trails that are known for their excellent bird and wildlife watching. Other nearby attractions include the Fraser Point day use area, Schoodic Head, Grandstone Neck and the Winter Harbor Lighthouse.

Prospect Harbor Weather & Climate

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as "Downeast Maine," includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
