Corea
is the quintessential fishing village located approximately an hour's drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Downeast Maine. It sits on the tip of a peninsula and is a lobstering port, home to a fleet of about 40 lobsterboats, where the surrounding docks are usually piled high with traps. Corea is, in fact, home to a well-known manufacturer of lobster boats. The community is small in size, picturesque and quiet. The kind of place that is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the true sense of Downeast Maine away from the usual tourist crowds. Activities in Corea include boating and fishing, hiking, biking, sea kayaking, whale watching, wildlife viewing, dining on fresh lobster and crabs. Golf can be found nearby, and ferry service is available to Nova Scotia. You will find galleries of local artists and craftspeople in the area, but other than that, Corea is virtually untouched by tourism. Attractions in the area include Grandstone Neck and the Winter Harbor Lighthouse, the Fraser Point Day Use Area, Schoodic Head and Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge. The latter contains 2,166 acres of forest, shorefront and fields, with two walking trails known for its birdwatching and wildlife.

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as "Downeast Maine," includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
