Northeast-Harbor
is a community on Mount Desert Island, off the coast of Maine, which is widely known as the home of Acadia National Park. Northeast Harbor is located on the southern end of Mount Desert Island at the entrance to Somes Sound, on what is often referred to as the "quiet side" of the island. Famous for its summertime residents and its' protected harbor full of exclusive yachts and sailboats, Northeast Harbor has fine restaurants and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Not to be missed while visiting Northeast Harbor are the Asticou Azalea Gardens and Thuya Gardens. The Asticou Azalea Garden is a peaceful oasis with several beautiful spots for sitting and quiet reflection. The Thuya Garden features perennial gardens and sculpted shrubbery with a touch of Asian ambiance. There are two ways to reach the Thuya Garden; one is by driving and the other is by hiking up the front of the granite cliffs that provide spectacular panoramic views of Northeast Harbor. Nearby Acadia National Park is full of recreational opportunities such as hiking and biking, kayaking, boating, whale watching and more. And, the nearby coastal cities of Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Bangor and Blue Hill offer a wonderful blend of museums, art galleries, nightly entertainment, shopping and restaurants.

Northeast Harbor Weather & Climate

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as "Downeast Maine," includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
