Freeport
is a historical village located on the southern coast of Maine, near the Bath/Brunswick region. It is known as “the birthplace of Maine,” because it is here in 1820, at the Jameson Tavern in Freeport, where Maine colonists debated whether to separate from the state of Massachusetts. Other historical points of interest in town include the Harrington House (1830,) the Pettengill Farm, a 19th century salt water farm with exhibits of early coastal farm life, and The Gore House. The South Freeport Village offers panoramic views of the working harbor, along with great seafood restaurants and scenic ocean cruises. Shopping is also an adventure in Freeport, with 110 shops to choose from, including brand name designer outlets to art galleries and specialty shops. The town of Freeport also has its’ own oceanfront park, the Delia B. Powers Winslow Memorial Park & Campground. Located on a peninsula beside the Harraseeket River and Casco Bay, Winslow Park offers 100 campsites, scenic hiking trails, a playground, a beach for swimming and hiking, tidal boat launching and picnic areas. Several other state parks are found in the near vicinity, as well, including Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, Reid State Park, Popham Beach State Park and Bradbury Mountain State Park.

The Southwest Coast of Maine near Casco Bay has four seasons with mild summer temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. Interior areas experience a greater range of temperatures in the summer than low-lying coastal areas. Expect cool sea breezes, especially at night. Widely scattered thunderstorms, along with higher humidity levels, can occur along with patchy fog along the coast. Maine%u2019s coastal climate is ranked second to the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation, and this moisture occurs in every from %u2013 from rain to ice and snow. Winters in Maine are quite cold with temperatures ranging from 11 to 31 degrees F. Average annual snowfall is 61 inches although snow melts more quickly along the coast than further inland.
