Lincoln
is a picturesque community of 5,700 residents located approximately 50 miles north of the city of Bangor. Named after the sixth governor of Maine, Lincoln is primarily a woodland logging community, but is also called the "Lincoln Lakes Region" because 14 crystal clear lakes and ponds surround it. It is also near the popular Baxter State Park and the Mt. Katahdin area. Mattanawcook Lake is located right in downtown Lincoln and offers snow sledding and ice fishing in the winter and boating and swimming in the summer. In winter, driving onto the lake is possible at Prince Thomas Park, making it easy for those interested in ice fishing, and if you have a "fish house" to unload. The town of Lincoln is the central business community for several smaller communities, and offers visitors and residents an array of businesses and services while maintaining an appealing "home town" atmosphere. Besides the aforementioned activities, the Lincoln area also has lots of hiking and biking trails, white water rafting, mountain climbing, air boat rides on nearby Kennebec River, snowmobile and cross country ski trails. The town's proximity to I-95 provides easy access to Bangor. Mt. Katahdin is about an hour away and Acadia National Park is approximately two hours from Lincoln.

Lincoln Weather & Climate

North-Central Maine has four seasons of relatively mild weather. Summers in the Mt. Katahdin Region, near the Canadian border, are cool, with highs in the 70s or sometimes reaching the low 80s. Interior areas experience a greater range of temperatures in the summer, with some nights in northern areas near freezing. Winters in Maine are cold and sometimes even frigid. January temperatures range from 11 to 31 F along the coast and 1 to 19 F inland. The snow can be lovely, and if you aren't opposed to cold weather, wintertime is a great time to visit Maine. Continuous snow is generally on the ground from December through February and sometimes into March. Daytime highs gradually increase March through May. In September, the spectacular colors of fall blaze and sunny days and cool nights characterize this favorite season of many in Maine.
